Myocardial Perfusion Scan
A type of nuclear medicine procedure where a tiny amount of radioactive substance is used during the procedure. The scan evaluates the heart’s function and blood flow.
A resting myocardial perfusion scan assesses the blood flow to the heart muscle and determines what areas have decreased blood flow.
A stress myocardial perfusion scan assesses the blood flow to the heart muscle when it is stressed by exercise or medication and then determines what areas have decreased blood flow.
